Amy Koudelka Presented a Program on Lymphedema

Sparta Community Hospital’s Cancer Support Group held their monthly meeting Tuesday, September 11th at Broadway Plaza.

Amy Koudelka, Physical Therapist & Certified Lymphedema Therapist, presented a program on lymphedema and the new Lymphedema Therapy for Upper Extremities program now available at the hospital’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department located at their north campus. Koudelka focused on the symptoms of lymphedema, a condition that has a patient’s legs or arms swelling due to poor lymphatic function that can be caused from many things including radiation treatment or infections. She also shared the many different techniques of treatment such as compression garments and massage therapy, to name a few, that are all available at the hospital’s physical therapy department.

The program also featured local musician and Native American, David Little Eagle Rivera. Little Eagle played his many hand crafted flutes and spoke on the healing nature of music.

The Cancer Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at Suite 3, Broadway Plaza, 7pm. Anyone is welcome to attend the cancer support meetings.
