Description
Sparta Community Hospital is a 25-bed full-service acute care medical facility, which is a fully licensed and certified Medicare and Medicaid provider. Sparta Community Hospital continually monitors the health needs of the communities we serve so that we can continue to provide Quality Health Care Close to home.
Sparta Community Hospital’s Medical / Surgical Floor Includes 21 beds, and is staffed by a group of caring professionals.
The story of Sparta Community Hospital begins in 1935 when Dr. J.C. Sutherland moved to Sparta, IL. After several years practicing medicine Dr. Sutherland decided that Sparta needed more then just the 12-bed hospital currently available. Dr. Sutherland purchased a large two-story brick house on the east side of Sparta. The first floor of the old home was remodeled to house physician offices while the second floor was converted into a 15-bed hospital. After Dr. Sutherland died in an automobile accident his family elected to sell the hospital to the city of Sparta and the Sparta Community Hospital District was created. Several expansions to the building and increased services over the years have kept Sparta Community Hospital a center for Health Care in Southwestern Illinois. During the last decade, Sparta Community Hospital completed its largest expansion project in its history.

The Medical Staff at Sparta Community Hospital includes employed and non-employed independent physicians. Physicians on staff at this hospital, including but not limited to, emergency room physicians, pathologists, radiologists, and other specialty and consulting physicians are not employees or agent of the hospital. Such physicians are independent contractors who have been granted privileges at this facility for the care and treatment of their patients. These physicians exercise their own independent medical judgment and they are not subject to the supervision or control of the hospital with respect to patient treatment.
