Honoring the People Who Make Sparta Community Hospital Shine
On January 17, 2026, Sparta Community Hospital turned up the glow to celebrate one of our favorite traditions—honoring the incredible team members who reached milestone work anniversaries in 2025. It was an evening filled with light, gratitude, and heartfelt recognition for the people who help keep our community healthy every day.
This year, we proudly celebrated employees marking 5, 10, 15, 25, 30, and an extraordinary 45 years of service. Each milestone represents far more than time—it reflects years of dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to caring for others. These individuals are the steady lights who guide our organization forward, shaping our growth and strengthening the care we provide.
To ensure fairness and consistency, service anniversaries are recognized based on an employee’s seniority date—the point at which they reached full‑time status. While many have contributed in various ways before that date, this method allows us to honor full‑time service in a clear and uniform way.
But beyond the numbers, what truly made the evening glow was the spirit of our team. Every employee—full‑time, part‑time, clinical, non‑clinical—plays a part in making Sparta Community Hospital a bright and caring place. Each person adds to the warmth, the excellence, and the energy that define who we are.
As we celebrated our 2025 honorees, we were reminded once again that it’s the people of Sparta Community Hospital who make all the difference. Their heart, their work, and their dedication continue to illuminate our mission and inspire our community.
Here’s to our milestone recipients—and to every person who helps this place shine. ✨
We’ll start tonight by recognizing our 5-year honorees. These team members have found their rhythm, built strong foundations, and are just beginning to truly glow in their roles. Their energy, growth, and commitment light the way for what’s ahead.

Over time, Marketing was added to her responsibilities—a role in which she has truly shined. Her creativity and strategic insight have been instrumental to our growth. Whether pivoting a strategy at the eleventh hour or strengthening community partnerships, she consistently elevates our public image. In a world that is constantly moving and changing, there is something profoundly sacred about someone who chooses to stay, and in 1990, Dr. Mark Preuss arrived in Steeleville not just to take a job, but to build a life. As the very first employed physician in our organization, he didn’t just join a clinic—he helped lay the foundation for the care this community relies on today. Many of us know Dr. Preuss for his trademark calm; in the high-stakes world of medicine, he has remained the “steady hand” for 35 years. He is the definition of mild-mannered, not because he lacks intensity, but because he possesses the quiet strength required to truly listen. In his exam room, you aren’t just a chart or diagnosis, and his genuine care is not simply “bedside manner”—it is a reflection of his character. In a small town, a family physician is more than a doctor; they are a witness to the passage of time, and over the last three and a half decades, Dr. Preuss has become woven into the fabric of our families, caring for second and third generations—the children and grandchildren of those he first treated in 1990. That kind of continuity is rare in modern medicine and is a true gift to our community. Doctor, you moved here to care for us, and in doing so, you became one of us; you have modeled what it means to lead with humility and serve with heart. As we celebrate these 35 years, we don’t just thank you for your medical expertise—we thank you for your friendship, your patience, and your unwavering commitment to our organization.
– Joann Emge

Cindy is so devoted to helping people. She genuinely cares about trying to make things better for everyone around her, anyone calling her, people behind the scenes that don’t even know she is working to help them,,, everyone. Being here, with Sparta, for “a while now” ,,,, she has worked so many different departments and positions, and has such a wealth of knowledge of the people, the organization, the processes, EVERYTHING. Cindy’s journey is a testament to loyalty and hard work and “I am” / ”We should all be” truly grateful for everything she has done, is doing, and will continue to do as long as we can keep her here. Thank you Cindy.
