As COVID-19 and its variants are on the rise in the US, it is the Urban-Rural divide that is impacting the access of health care to our patients.

Rural healthcare facilities seek support from the large metropolitan facilities when it comes to tertiary care beyond the scope of critical access facilities.  Due to the rise in COVID hospitalizations, accessing care for patients has been difficult.  As a result, At-Home Health Care, a service of Sparta Community Hospital, has been selected to pilot a program to administer Monoclonal Antibody Treatment in the home by Dr. Arti Barnes, Medical Director at Illinois Department of Public Health.

“The program has now been implemented and the home health staff are making home visits to administer the antibodies to Covid positive patients and close exposures that meet criteria.” States Cheryl Adams, RN, Administrator.  “The staff is also following up with phone calls and visits to ensure that patients are making improvements.   Dr. Barnes sees this as an opportunity to decrease hospitalizations due to COVID, thus relieving stress on them.”
