Dr. David Chung | Family Health Center at Sparta Community Hospital

Governor Pritzker recently announced that Dr. David Chung has been appointed to the State Board of Health.  This is great news for Southern Illinois, as prior to Dr. Chung’s appointment, the southernmost member on the board hailed from Sangamon County.

The Illinois Department of Public Health’s mission is to advocate for and partner with the people of Illinois re-envision health policy and promote health equity, prevent, and protect against disease and injury, and prepare for health emergencies.

Dr. Chung’s role on the board will be to advise the medical director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. “The board will be undertaking a critical review of policies and regulations that impact the health of the residents of our great state,” shares Dr. Chung. “Using my experience as a family physician at Sparta Community Hospital, and as a member of the Randolph County Board of Health, I am committed to advocating for the public health needs of the people of Southern Illinois.”

Dr. Chung serves as the Chief of Staff for Sparta Community Hospital, is a member of the Southern Illinois Medical Association, and the Monroe-Randolph County Medical Society. He also has experience as a Medical Director at Coulterville Rehabilitation and Healthcare, where he provided medical oversight to the long-term care facility. He has teaching experience at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, and at the Chamberlain College of Nursing. Dr. Chung has been active in his community, participating in the Sparta Community Chorus as a Board member and the Annual Christmas Concert. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences and Medical Doctorate degree from Northwestern.
