Sparta Community Hospital District Announces Appointment of Chief Operating Officer

Sparta, IL — Sparta Community Hospital District is proud to announce the promotion of Paul Mueller to the newly established role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Paul has been a dedicated member of the SCHD team since 2006, serving in several key leadership roles including Controller, Director of Financial Services, Chief Financial Officer, and most recently, Director of Financial Strategy. His extensive background in healthcare finance and operations has positioned him well for this expanded leadership role.

As COO, Paul will continue to oversee Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services, and Rehabilitation Services, while also leading special projects and supporting the overall management of the organization. Over time, his responsibilities will broaden to include more departments and initiatives across the hospital. He will also serve as the point of contact in the absence of the CEO, ensuring strong and consistent leadership.

Paul is a Steeleville native with deep roots in the community. He is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta and a longtime supporter of youth athletics—coaching a Sparta based select softball team as well as assistant coach for the Steeleville Junior High and High School softball teams. In his free time, Paul enjoys spending time with his family and outdoors on his farm hunting and fishing.

“This is an exciting time for our organization as we look to the future,” said Joann Emge, CEO of Sparta Community Hospital District. “Paul’s leadership skills, financial expertise, and commitment to our mission make him an excellent fit for this new position. We are thrilled to see him take on this expanded role.”
