  • Dexa—Do not take any calcium or calcium pills 24 hours prior to exam. Do not eat or drink any dairy products 4 hours prior to exam.
  • UGI—Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
  • Barium Swallow—Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
  • Diagnostic Mammogram. Exam for individuals experiencing symptoms or needing follow-up or additional evaluation on an abnormal screening.

  • Screening Mammogram. Annual, preventative exam for women 40+ or high-risk women 25+ with no symptoms of breast cancer

No body lotions, powders, perfumes or deodorants to be worn to diagnostic or screening mammogram appointments.

  • Cardiac Stress Test—Nothing to eat or drink for 2 hours prior to exam. No caffeine, decaf or chocolate products 24 hours prior to exam. Bring medication list. Wear comfortable shoes. No lotions or oils on upper torso. No shirts with metal buttons, snaps or decorations. Your ordering provider may withhold certain medications.
  • Hida Scan—Nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to exam. Narcotic medications, such as morphine or Demerol, should be withheld for 6 hours. No upper or lower GI studies should be performed 4 days prior to exam.
  • Bone Scan—Be well hydrated prior to exam.
  • Abdomen—Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours.
  • Breast/Thyroid/Testicular—No prep.
  • Breast Biopsy—PTT/INR lab work either 1 hour before procedure or day before. Take normal morning medications. Eat a light breakfast. If on aspirin or blood thinners, talk to scheduler or provider.
  • Caratid/Venous/Arterial—No prep.
  • Echo—No prep.
  • Gall bladder— Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours.
  • Pelvis/OB/Pregnant—Drink 32 oz. of water one hour before exam (no carbonated drinks). Please arrive with a full bladder.
  • Renal (Kidney) – Drink 32 oz. of water one hour before exam (no carbonated drinks or milk). Please arrive with a full bladder.
  • Renal Duplex (Vascular) – Nothing to eat for 8 hours. Drink 32 oz. of water one hour before exam (no carbonated drinks or milk). Please arrive with a full bladder.
  • CT With Contrast—Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. Have lab work completed the day before or up to 2 weeks prior to exam (if required).
  • Abdomen/Pelvic Exams—Drink 32 oz. of water one hour prior to exam. A full bladder is not necessary.
  • ABD & MRCP—Nothing to eat or drink at least eight hours prior.
  • Pacemaker—You will not be able to have MRI at Sparta Community Hospital.
