Sparta Community Hospital recently honored Susan Gutjahr, Medical Records Supervisor, for 30 years of service.  Susan started at the hospital on June 11, 1990 as the Medical Records Supervisor.  In 2000 a Reimbursement Department was created to address the implementation of the outpatient prospective payment system.  With that came supervision of the registration and billing departments.   In 2009 when the electronic medical record system (EMR) was implemented, Susan turned her attention from the financial arm of the organization to the technical arm implementing the EMR.  This remains her focus today as the HIT (Health Information Technology) Director and the Director of IT.  In addition she is the Compliance and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) Privacy Officer.

Susan has an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology from SWIC obtaining her RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Greenville University.  She also holds several coding credentials, CCS and CPC.

Susan and her husband, David, live “half way to everywhere” and currently became empty nesters as the last of their 3 children graduated high school COVID19 style and has begun college.  Susan enjoys reading in her spare time and dancing with her husband.
