Sparta Community Hospital recently received notice of a successful renewal for Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) status within Emergency Medical Services Region 4 in the State of Illinois.  This recognition status is effective until 2024.

This key program initiative is enhancing the readiness of emergency departments within Illinois by ensuring that they meet specific standards that are outlined in EMS Administrative Code. Sparta Community Hospital once again received recognition by the Illinois Department of Public Health via the EMSC Pediatric Facility Recognition program, for having the essential resources and capabilities in place to meet the emergency and critical care needs of seriously ill and injured children.

Sparta Community Hospital’s emergency department also offers telemedicine services from SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.  The TeleED program at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon is a consultative telemedicine service that brings the expertise of SLUCare pediatric emergency physicians directly to Sparta Community Hospital’s Emergency Room. By using enhanced video and audio technology, pediatric patients are able to receive immediate, real-time, remote consultation and evaluation without a transfer to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon.
