Sparta Community Hospital will be rolling out a new cardiopulmonary rehabilitation service line to our community.  This program is a medically supervised program individually tailored and consisting of exercise and education to help patients feel better, increase strength, function, and endurance, as well as increased ability to care for ones ’self, resulting in improvement of overall quality of life.  Furthermore, it will decrease hospital admissions and visits to the emergency department.

This program will consist of a multidisciplinary health care team that provides patients with cardiac and/or pulmonary impairment who have limited physical conditions and ability to function well in their lives. One may hear it called either cardiac rehab or pulmonary rehab, or simply rehab. These programs are similar, as they have the same components.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program will be in addition to our established cardiac rehabilitation program. Our two service lines will be known as Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. It will offer a multidisciplinary educational class one Monday a month, with professionals from each of the disciplines, those being a Dietitian, Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, Fitness Manager, and Social Services Counselor.

Education and exercise will strengthen the patient, thus, reducing symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, emotional stress, depression, and anxiety. It will improve muscle tone, flexibility, and range of motion, helping the body to become stronger and work better. The patient will experience increased energy levels, enabling them to return to work, school, and other lifestyle activities sooner.

The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation will be located at the hospital’s Cardiology Clinic, located behind the hospital at 205 S. Burns Street in Sparta. Hours of operation will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 8am until 4:30pm.  Acceptance of physician referrals will begin January 2, 2023.
